Brief description of the model kit: | Today, model kit from Italeri isn't the best, because from my point of view, there is a new better kit made by Hobby Boss. However, it has decent quality. Folding wings isn't possible with this kit. Parts are cast well, without depressions and the larger impurities. |
Brief description of construction: | I chose the model for many details and parts used in the cockpit. The model surface is painted with an airbrush. I do not recommend using the white Humbrol color, because it creates a meal and doesn't cover very well, and I had to grind the surface with fine sandpaper. |
History
Grumman TBF Avenger was an American torpedo bomber aircraft. We can say that it had two lives. The first life was during the Second World War, for which one the aircraft was originally designed. The second life was in the post war era when the aircraft was used as a control plane for an electronic warfare. In some countries it remained in use until the 1960s.
On 8 April 1940, Aeronautics U.S. Navy made a contract to build a new prototype of bomber and torpedo aircraft. The contract was received by Aircraft Engineering Corporation.
New Avenger has been a robust aircraft, capable of carrying three crew members (pilot, gunner and radioman-gunner), a torpedo or up to four 500 pound (227 kg) bombs. Armament consisted of a solid 0.50 inches (12.7 mm) machine gun, other machine gun operated in a rotating tower, and finally 0.30 inches (7.62 mm) machine gun, controlled by the shooter lying at the bottom of the fuselage.
