| Brief description of the model kit: | The model is very sophisticated - display surface on the wing, engine, cockpit and landing gear, all with many details and free of debris. Plastic parts fit together perfectly, there is no need to buy additional accessories. Little tubes and small details can be easily made by yourself. |
| Brief description of construction: | For Corsair model, I used Model Master colors. They cover surface perfectly, and spraying with an airbrush is also nice. The surface of model is painted with gloss MM. After placing labels, I painted them over with semi-gloss MM. Spinner is painted with silver paint and polished with MM too. I used bombs that are hanging below the plane from a model kit B-25 Mitchell manufactured by Italeri. |
History
Vought F4U Corsair was fighter aircraft used by U.S. Navy and it was one of the best aircrafts in the Pacific War during World War II and in the Korean War. The first prototype of aircraft took off in 1940 and it managed to reach speed of 400 mph (650 km/h). It wings were shaped in "W" sign and they were equipped with 6 M2 Browning machine guns with 2350 rounds. Early types of Corsairs had some difficulties with taking offs and landings on aircraft carriers. Aircrafts were bouncing during landings and pilots had bad view of landing deck of aircraft carriers from cockpit. Because of the mentioned problems, Corsair didn't acquire certificate for landing on aircraft carriers.
95 aircrafts were given to the British army and their engineers were able to solve problems with landings. They made landing gear stronger and pilots started landing in curves, so they were able to see landing deck. British Corsairs were capable of landing on aircraft carriers 9 months earlier than Corsairs from U.S. Navy. 12,751 Corsairs were manufactured between years 1940 and 1952.
