| Brief description of the model kit: | I won the model in the ModellBrno 2009 competition as a price donated by ModelForum. Thanks very much to ModelForum for a nice model kit. Fw 109 model kit has a lot of parts, and there are different ways how to build it. It is possible to remove covers of the engine and weapons systems. Cockpit can be improved with coloured sheet of photo etched parts. |
| Brief description of construction: | I didn't have to make rivets on the surface of the aircraft, because there were basic rivets already. That made my work easier. Drawing black and white spiral on the spinner was not difficult, because white stripe was included in the label sheets. I replaced plastic machine guns with needle from a syringe. |
History
Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was probably the best Garman fighter and bombing aircraft of the World War II. It all begun with the Reich Ministry of Aviation that didn't want to establish Luftwaffe with just one type of fighter plane, which was Bf-109 Messerschmitt. Ministry ordered hopeful Garman factory Focke-Wulf Flugzeughau to design and build a new type of aircraft. They succeeded and the first Fw 190 took off in 1. June 1939. It was equipped with new eighteen cylindrical, two star, BMW 139 engine, and with three blades propeller. The aircraft excelled both in speed and agility.
New aircraft versions A-1 and A-2 had more powerful engines BMW 801 C-1 with performance up to 1267 kW. Another 500 aircrafts have been ordered. Aircrafts also possessed great firepower. They carried two two 20 mm cannons type MG 151/20, mounted in their wings. In addition, two MG 17 machine guns were located above the engine. Most aircrafts had another two 20 mm cannons in the wings outside an undercarriage. In the end of the war, until the production was stopped, over 13,365 aircrafts were manufactured.
