Quality of the model kit:
Brief description of the model kit: Quality of the model kit is quite good. Rivets come to the surface and it is difficult to repair them after sanding. The cockpit has a small defect, because dashboard is taken from the kit Ah-64A Apache. Version D is an upgraded version and its dashboard should be completely different. There is a similar error with mounted machine gun in the front part of the helicopter, which should look a little different.
Brief description of construction: The shape of the Apache helicopter is very complex and it has a number of small projections. We can't avoid a lot of complex sealing and cutting. I cut a hole in the fuselage to make a space for electronics, because it makes my model more interesting and it improves an overall impression of the model. I sprayed the entire helicopter with olive color. I wanted to add significant weathering effects. The first step was to apply oil paints into the gaps and then I sprayed model with more shades of olive color. Finally, I used a bit of pigment powders.

History

AH-64D Apache Longbow is an American two-seat, twin-engine attack helicopter. It is used since the Cold War to the present. This type of helicopter replaced an older model AH-1 Cobra.

The prototype of YAH-64A took of for the first time on 30th September 1975. The helicopter was supplied with thick armor and was created to handle the possibility of damage to the main rotor in combat situations. Three pre-production machines AH-64 were transferred to the second army operational test in 1981. The test went very well and its result was the decision to switch to the motor T700-GE-701, which output was 1,259 kW. At the end of 1981 AH-64 Apache received its designation Apache in connection with the traditional military use of Native American tribal names for U.S. helicopters. Hughes Helicopter Company was fully approved to start the production on 5th February 1982.

Apache has a short stabilizing wings which can carry up to 16 missiles, AGM-114 Hellfire or 76 unguided missiles Hydra 70. The helicopter also has a 30 mm M230 cannon. The helicopter is able to operate even in low visibility conditions due to its electronic systems.
