Quality of the model kit:
Brief description of the model kit: I built this model long time ago. The model kit was the best on the market. Cockpit is pretty sophisticated, engravings are fine. Labels are very thin, so they perfectly copy the surface, but the print quality isn't very good. Small white dots can be seen on black parts of labels.
Brief description of construction: I used Humbrol paints. The engine did not fit and I had to grind it and shrink a little. Photo etched parts fit perfectly and they revived cockpit significantly. My first attempt of creating diorama did not succeded too well. Masking net is made of fine plastic mesh, which is covered with small parts of coloured paper napkins.

History

The history of Messerschmitt Bf-109, the most common German Luftwaffe fighter aircraft, has its immediate beginnings in 1943. The company Arado, Focke-Wulf and Heinkel received requests to develop a new prototype fighter. Later, the request was forwarded to the company Bayerische Flugzegwere AG in Augsburg. One of the best designer was Ing. Willy Messerschmitt. In 1934 his team had new blueprints of Bf-109 aircraft.

Bf-109 was a low-wing monoplane, with a covered cabin, retractable landing gear and wings fitted with automatic slots on the leading edges and slotted flaps on the trailing edges. Fighter was equipped with single-drive unit, twelve cylinders engine Daimler-Benz 601 with 809 kW output. Late versions were reaching speed up to 400 mph.

I think there is little error here "(...) has its immediate beginnings in 1943". The correct year is 1934.
Anyway, an useful article I enjoyed reading . I suggest a link modellers may find useful, with some free blueprints for this awesome fighter - <a title="Messerschmitt Bf 109 plans & drawings" href="http://scale-model-aircraft.com/plans-drawings/interwar-aviation/messerschmitt-bf-109">Messerschmitt Bf 109 plans & drawings</a>
