| Brief description of the model kit: | Plastic model kit of M-1025 Armored Carrier made by Academy has good quality and reasonable price. It is quite nicely manufactured. All figures are made by Zvezda. I used the Russian Vympel Anti-Terrorist Unit as soldiers from Brotherhood of Steel. The bandits came out from Soviet Mountain Infantry model kit. The building is built from scratch, the walls are made of plaster. |
| Brief description of construction: | I started the diorama by forming the Brotherhood of Steel paladin. Miliput is quite suitable material for creating figures such as this one. I have worked only with plastic figures from model kits until now, so modeling of paladin was my premiere. Also, miliput served well for creating a lot of details in the interior of the building. The ground is created from a mixture of sawdust, plaster, adhesives and static grass. |
World of Fallout
In year 1997, Fallout game entered the market, and not long after that, Fallout 2 sequel was introduced. Soon, both games became a real phenomenon. Fallout is computer RPG (role-playing-game) game, set to post-apocalyptic world, destroyed by nuclear war. However, some people found shelter in large underground vaults, and managed to survive the apocalypse. When outside radiation levels decreased, many people left vaults, and they started new life in a wasteland. Such life was very hard, and people had to struggle for their own lives.
With desire to survive, they found their own ways, how to do it. Some founded small farming villages, and started to cultivate destroyed soil. People managed to domesticate wild animals, mainly descendants of cattle, mutated cows with two hads, called brahmins.
Other inhabitants of wasteland tried to find pre-war items, mainly weapons and technology. If they had luck, they could also found can food from the times before the Great War.
However, there were always people with easier ways, how to get some stuff. They just stole what they needed, often by force. The wasteland became dangerous place, full of gangs and bandits.
On the other way, group of people has appeared, with decision to search and keep old knowledge of humanity. They called themselves Brotherhood of Steel. They were searching wasteland for old and powerful technology, mainly energy weapons from the times before the Great War. They claimed that the technology is to powerful for ordinary people, and because of that, the Brotherhood keeps all technology away from the outside world.
One of the most advanced technology is special full body armor, called power armor. Only the best of the Brotherhood are honored to wear this type of armor.
If you look to the photos of diorama then you can see a scene around half-ruined building. Looking inside, you can see a vault dweller from the Vault 21. Meantime, group of bandits ambushed this place. But suddenly, something happened, what they didn't think of. A patrol from Brotherhood of Steel joined the firefight. One member of the patrol (commanding officer and paladin of the Brotherhood) is wearing power armor, and he is carrying a gatling gun. Ambush and easy prey for the bandits, as it looked in the beginning, changed to a fight for their own lives.
Note: Diorama was designed and built after Fallout 3 came out. There was no mention about the Vault 21. The number was randomly chosen. But later, Fallout: New Vegas was introduced, and there already is the Vault 21. Actually, it was located in the heart of Las Vegas.
