North American B-25 Mitchell was two engine, medium bomber, named after general of U.S. Air Force, Billy Michell. The first prototype NA-40, built in the North American Aviation, took off in year 1939. It was two engine aircraft with landing gear in nose section, and with twin vertical tails. Its wingspan was 20 m and length was 16 m. Maximum takeoff weight, for the late version, was up to 18 tons. Aircraft was equipped with two 14 cylinder engines, two Wright Double Cyclon star engines (1360 kw each). There were only six crew members on board.
Bombers were deployed mainly in the Pacific and in the Mediterranean Sea regions, but also, they were supplied to the Soviet Union because of the Lend-lease law that was pushed by U.S. president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. After the end of the World War II, several aircraft were delivered to the China and Canada, where they performed civilian tasks. Several aircrafts were also converted to fireplanes.
