Brief description of construction: I managed to build the model in 1 week. I sprayed camouflage color scheme with Humbrol and Model Master colors by hand, with no masks. Abrasions are painted in dark brown color with a thin brush, and the edges of the scratches are painted in brighter camouflage colors. For gluing plastic parts, I started using a gel superglue. If you have any questions concerning the construction of model, then I could publish some answers to tips and tricks section.

History

Sturmgeschütz IV (StuG IV) was a German assault gun of the Second World War. After the great battle of Kursk, the Germans found that the Russians outnumbered them with tanks. They decided to begin production of self-propelled assault guns. Production was cheaper and less time consuming. A new series of tank destroyers Sturmgeschütz IV was introduced. They were built on the chassis of PzKpfw IV. Reconstruction project of new assault guns was taken by Alkett company. The new type of assault gun had to use most of the existing components of the older Stug III. The designers had a problem with placement of the superstructure to the chassis of PzKpfz IV, and therefore space for a driver. They decided to attach armored box on the left front side of the tank.

Tank crew consisted of 4 people (driver, commander, gunner and loader). On the top of turret, there were located two hatches for the crew, and the right hatch was equipped with a machine gun 34th MG. The main weapon of the Sturmgeschütz IV was an effective StuK 40 L/48 caliber 75 mm, carrying ammunition supply of 63 rounds. Most machines were carrying additional armored plates on the sides, called Schürzen, that provided protection against cumulative projectiles. Later versions of the tank was covered with antimagnetic Zimmerit paste, protecting the machine against the magnetic bomb.

Serial production of Stug IV was launched in December 1943. Production ran until April 1945. 1,141 copies of Stug IV assault gun were produced. Nowadays, there are only 3 existing exemplars.
