How to create corrugated iron
Difficulty:
In this tutorial you will learn how to produce tiny corrugated irons which can be used as a supplement to the diorama models, preferably in 1/35 scale. The procedure is very simple and time-efficient, but it requires some caution.
The basic idea is to use aluminum sheets which can be easily cut out of drink cans. First of all, you will have to cut off the bottom and the upper part of the can. It is also recommended to grind the paint on can with a sandpaper, because paint can easily burn. Heat the sheet over a flame and cool it in the water. Thanks to it, aluminum soften and it is easier to work with. After cooling, you can begin to shape it.
Then, you need to prepare some thin metal sticks, I prefer the spokes from the bicycle wheel. Begin from the edge of sheet and bend it over a spoke. Put the sheet on a solid surface and put the second spoke next to the first one. Then lift the sheet a little, put another spoke under the sheet, and push from the top. This way, you will continue until you bend the sheet from one side to another.
To produce a corrugated iron, we will need:
- aluminum cover from drink cans
- a sandpaper
- spokes from the bicycle wheel or some other solid and thin sticks
- pliers or some other appropriate tool
- a knife
- a bucket with water
- a gas burner
Procedure:
- Cut a small sheet from the can and grind it with a sandpaper.
- Hold the sheet with pliers, heat it over a flame and then cool it quickly with water.
- Bend the sheet with spokes.
- Finally, you can color it if you want.
Warning: Work very carefully when you cut the sheets from a can with a knife, and when you heat it over a flame. Edges of the aluminum sheet can be sharp. Not suitable for children.
