Description

Gretchin, Grots or Runts are a lesser Ork slave race who do the menial tasks which Orks consider they are above.

Gretchin have a similar physical structure to Ork but are much smaller and weaker. They have short runty legs and grasping fingers to employ their greatest skill, low cunning. They are far more numerous than Orks and have large bulbous heads with tattered ears which flatten when they are scared. They have sharp fanged jaws which are their best physical weapon. They have an excellent sense of smell, hearing and they have effective sight in the dark. These traits aid their self-preservation allowing them to survive in the dangerous Ork society.

Gretchin are known for their poor combat abilities, but they compensate for this by sheer numbers. They often go to war with a basic gun firing volleys of scavenged ammunition before falling on their enemies in an fury of killing, ripping them to pieces with their teeth.

The natural cowardice and feeble-limbed incompetence of the Gretchin race does not predispose them to the arts of war, and a typical Grot would prefer to have his head buried in a sporehole than to actually participate in a proper battle.

Gretchin mobs are lead into the battles by Runtherds, which are Ork Oddboyz who have the patience to take care of Gretchin and Snotlings. Far from detesting their jobs, Runtherds often take pride in their jobs and try to breed the fiercest Grots and Snots they can. Also, they take full credit for any brew of fungus beer crafted by Gretchin and their rabble.

Their characteristic weapons are whips, Grabba Stikks and Grot-prods, tazer-like weapons created by meks and employed by progressive Runtherds. They often make use of Squig-hounds to eat errant or fleeing Grots in battle to "increase" the morale of their Gretchin mob.
